How does the certification process work?
Company B Certification™ starts with registration in our free, customized sustainability tool, B Impact, and with the start of your self-assessment. This is an in-depth analysis of your company's impact, measuring its current performance against the B Lab Standards.™.

Company registration
To start the B Company Certification process, the company must register on the platform. B Impact and complete your organization's initial information.

Evaluation of Fundamental Requirements
The company evaluates whether it meets the Fundamental Requirements. B Lab then reviews this information to determine if the company is eligible to move forward in the certification process.

Definition of the scope of certification and marks
The company defines which part of its organization will be included in the certification (scope) and which brands will be able to use the Empresa B logo. B Lab reviews and validates this information.

Signing of the agreement with B Lab and payment of the fee of verification
The company signs the appropriate agreement with B Lab and pays the applicable process fees (such as complex structure review and/or assessment submission fee).

B Lab assigns the company an independent supplier who will be in charge of auditing the certification process.

Signing of the agreement with the insurance provider
The company signs a contract with the assurance provider that will perform the audit.

Audit
The assurance provider performs an independent audit that includes a review of the company's self-assessment. This audit can be performed in person or remotely, depending on the scope of the certification.

After the audit, the assurance provider issues a report that may include nonconformities (issues to be corrected). The company receives instructions and deadlines to resolve them.

The assurance provider makes a final decision (positive or negative) on certification, depending on whether the company was able to resolve the major non-conformities within a maximum period of six months.

If the decision is positive, the supplier issues the Company B Certification, valid for a period of up to five years, subject to follow-up audits and recertification.

Follow-up and recertification audits
To maintain certification and the license to use the Certified B Company mark, companies must undergo follow-up audits during the certification cycle and a recertification audit at the end of the period.
How long does the process take?
The certification process usually lasts between 2 and 6 months, depending on the size of the company and the findings or non-conformities identified during the audit.
