About Collective Action
What is Collective Action?
Although each company makes its own effort to generate positive impact on all its stakeholders, it is through collective action that true, large-scale structural change can be achieved. Collective action is the engine that multiplies the impact of B™ Companies, generating a profound transformation in the economic system.
Today, the world expects companies not only to uphold their values, but also to collaborate in addressing the most pressing global challenges. United by a common purpose, B Corporations are increasingly recognizing the power of their collective strength. They often self-organize into collectives that generate positive impact across borders and sectors, driving real change that extends far beyond their own boundaries.
With a clear strategy of collective action, the B Movement is working to expand its impact, both inside and outside its community, by addressing the most pressing social and environmental challenges of our time. In fact, collective action work will be a requirement in the new B™ Company Certification standards.
7 Collective Action Categories
Collaborations
B Corps work together for a common purpose to achieve a commercial benefit, such as a product, program, or research initiative.
Communities of Practice
Groups of B Corps connect based on geography, shared objectives, or relevant experience.
These communities exchange knowledge, foster collaboration, and aim to solve specific problems or continuously improve impact.
They can be organized by sector (e.g., construction industry) or by company area (e.g., Human Resources Directors).
