Theory of Change

Together, B Lab and Sistema B are driving economic systems change.

Since 2006, we have been working tirelessly to harness the power of business as a force for good.

Today, the B Corp movement stands with unprecedented credibility and global momentum—uniting sectors and societies in the shared pursuit of an inclusive, equitable, and regenerative economy.

The B Global Network’s Theory of Change guides our mission to transform the economic system into one that is more inclusive, equitable, and regenerative.

The problem

What’s the point of an economy that grows financially, yet by its very nature excludes thousands of people, depletes natural resources, and deepens individualism? For us, there is none.

The current economic system, driven by business as one of its key actors, is not meeting its enormous promise to create positive impact, while creating significant negative impacts.

The role of business is reinforced by 3 key aspects:

  • The way the economic and legal systems are designed.
  • The way business currently operates and behaves.
  • Business culture and the narrative about business.

Leading to 3 types of negative impacts:

  • Structural social and economic inequality.
  • Environmental degradation and resource extraction.
  • Decline in individual wellbeing and loss of social cohesion.

The solution

By collaborating with other movements, coalitions, political leaders, activists, and organizations, and by mobilizing our stakeholders — including B Corps, Benefit Corporations, and businesses adopting B Lab's standards — we can bring our vision to life.

The result

This Theory of Change envisions a world where business takes a leading role in transforming the global economy into a more inclusive, equitable, and regenerative system.
